Early voting begins in Progreso

PROGRESO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Early voting polls are now open for the Progreso Special Election.

Residents can now cast their ballot to chose the city's next Mayor and Council Member for Place Number 2.

Candidates Raul Martinez and Hugo Gamboa are facing off to claim the title as the next mayor of Progreso.

Progreso mayor resigns after drug trafficking arrest

The seat for city mayor has been vacant after former Progreso Mayor Gerardo "Jerry" Alanis resigned in April after he was arrested on drug trafficking charges.

Candidates Dago Trevino and Sandra V. Estrada are running for Council Member, Place Number 2.

Eligible voters can cast their ballots from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m starting May 29 through Tuesday, June 11.

Early voting and Election Day polling locations will be at the Progreso Family Community Center located on 510 N. FM 1015 in Weslaco.

Polls for early voting will remain open on Saturdays and closed on Sundays.

Election Day is on Saturday, June 15.
