The Texas Department of Public Safety is asking for the public’s help locating a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run crash in Weslaco that left one woman dead Sunday morning.
Cassandra I. Hernandez, 27, died from her injuries at the scene.
According to a DPS news release, the crash occurred at about 5:59 a.m. on Mile 4 West Road, north of Mile 12 ½ Road north in Weslaco.
A woman, later identified as Hernandez, was walking southbound on Mile 4 West Road in the southbound lane when an “unknown dark passenger car” traveling southbound on the same road struck her.
DPS said the driver of the car did not stop to render aid and fled the scene, adding that troopers are further investigating the crash.
“DPS is asking for your assistance in locating a vehicle of interest,” the agency said in the release. “If anyone has information, please call 956-565-7600 and report the driver’s whereabouts and the vehicle of interest.”
