DPS Trooper injured during traffic stop, pursuit overnight

EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper was injured overnight after a traffic stop.

Just before 11 p.m. Monday a trooper attempted to pull over a motorcyclist on Freddy Gonzalez and US 281 in Edinburg. The motorcyclist did not stop, causing a pursuit that started in Donna and ended in Edinburg.

When the cyclist finally stopped, DPS says they crashed.

After witnessing the crash, the trooper attempted to arrest the cyclist and a scuffle ensued. During the struggle, the trooper was injured.

Authorities did not specify the severity or type of injuries the trooper endured.

The trooper was transported to a local hospital.
