DPS: One dead in crash east of Edinburg

EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — One person is dead following a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred Saturday evening.

At about 6:40 p.m., a white Dodge Ram pickup and a gray Chevrolet Trailblazer collided on FM 1925 and Tower Road east of Edinburg in Hidalgo County. 

PD: Mission officer shot; investigation underway

A preliminary investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety revealed that the pickup, occupied by a man, woman and child, was traveling westbound on FM 1925 and attempted to turn left onto Tower Road. 

The Chevrolet Trailblazer, occupied by one man, was traveling westbound behind the Dodge. 

The driver of the Chevrolet failed to control speed and collided with the Dodge, according to DPS

The occupants of the Dodge were not transported to the hospital. The driver of the Chevrolet succumbed to his injuries at the scene. 

DPS Troopers are further investigating this fatal crash and believe alcohol was a contributing factor, pending a toxicology report.  No photos will be provided until after the next of kin is notified.
