DPS: Edcouch man hit by van lands on truck windshield, dies at scene

WESLACO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating an auto-pedestrian fatality that occurred on FM 1925 west of Engelmen Road north of Elsa.

The Texas DPS news release said the accident happened at 4:34 a.m. on Tuesday.

The DPS investigation revealed a gray Chrysler Town & Country van, occupied only by the driver, was traveling eastbound on FM 1925 west of Englemen Road.

A man was walking across FM 1925 from north to south and collided with the Chrysler. He went airborne and landed on the front windshield of a white Chevrolet Silverado, occupied by a driver and two passengers, also traveling eastbound on FM 195 west of Englemen Road.

The man then landed on the asphalt of FM 1925. The drivers nor passengers sustained injuries, nor were they transported to local hospitals.

The man was identified as Juan Eufracio Lopez Guiterrez, 36, a resident of Edcouch. He died from his injuries at the scene.

DPS Troopers are further investigating this fatal crash.
