WESLACO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A Richmond, Texas, resident wanted for murder has been arrested following a pursuit, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

This afternoon, the DPS Criminal Investigations Division (CID) and the Texas Department of Public Safety assisted the Harris County Sheriff's Office in locating a man who had been on the run since 2021 for failure to appear on a murder charge.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the pursuit began in Pharr after troopers located the suspect's vehicle on Owassa Rd and Veterans Blvd.
Margarito Alcantar, 35, struck several DPS vehicles and crashed into a cement wall on Eldora Rd, between Sugar Rd and McColl Rd in Edinburg, states the Texas Department of Public Safety's release.

Alcantar sustained minor injuries and was transported to Doctors Hospital at Renaissance.
His 3-year-old child was inside the vehicle and was released to a guardian unharmed.
Alcantar has been charged with four counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer, evading arrest with a vehicle, and child endangerment.
