DPS: 1 dead, 1 hospitalized after Rio Grande City crash

RIO GRANDE CITY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — One man is dead after a two-vehicle crash in Rio Grande City, authorities said.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred at 2 p.m. Tuesday on FM 755, near the intersection of Embassy Road in Rio Grande City.

An investigation revealed that a 2011 GMC Sierra was travelling north on FM 755 when the driver rear-ended a flatbed trailer, DPS stated.

"The driver of the GMC was distracted prior to the crash," the release adds.

The front passenger of the GMC was pronounced dead at the scene. He was later identified as 34-year-old Michael Villanueva of Rio Grande City.

The driver of the GMC was transported to a local hospital for their injuries.

The case remains under investigation.
