Donna man dies in two-vehicle fatal crash

A 58-year-old Donna man died Tuesday afternoon in a two-vehicle fatal crash.

In a news release, the Texas Department of Public Safety said the crash happened at approximately 3:29 p.m. on FM 1423 north of Minnesota Road north of Donna.

The preliminary investigation indicates a silver Dodge pickup, which was driven by Francisco Perez Lopez, was traveling southbound on FM 1423 while a gray Toyota Grand Highlander, driven by a man DPS did not identify, was traveling northbound on FM 1423, according to the release.

“For unknown reasons, the driver of the Dodge veered onto the northbound lane and side-swiped the Toyota, then veered off the roadway and struck the fence,” the release stated.

Perez, the driver of the Dodge, was transferred to South Texas Health System McAllen, where he died.

The crash remains under investigation.
