Donna man arrested for deadly expressway crash

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A preliminary investigation has revealed that a Donna man has been arrested in connection with a fatal crash in Harlingen on the expressway, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

At approximately 5 p.m. on IH-2 east of FM 506 in Harlingen, David Zapata, 46, was standing outside his 2010 Black Hino Tow Truck, securing another vehicle into the tow truck in the shoulder lane.

Cristobal Stephan Garzez, 28, driving a white Dodge Ram, was traveling westbound on IH-2 and struck Zapata after failing to slow down or move over for the emergency vehicle.

Garzez left the scene but was located near the crash site.

Garzez was booked into the Cameron County Jail following his arrest for intoxication manslaughter, failure to slow down, causing death, failure to stop and render aid, and possession of a controlled substance, according to the release.  

DPS Troopers are further investigating this fatal crash.
