DONNA, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A new Head Start campus in Donna is being celebrated and recognized as the largest campus in Head Start history.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Friday morning to celebrate the grand opening of Guzman Head Start Academy, a new addition to the Donna Independent School District.
"It's a proud day for us as a county to be able to support opening up a campus like this," said David Fuentes, Hidalgo County Commissioner, Precinct 1.
The new campus is expected to serve approximately 299 students in 16 classrooms.
The campus will also serve as a one-stop facility for families to stay informed about resources offered by Hidalgo County, including health and nutrition services.
"We're so proud to be able to support a department that provides this kind of service and provides access to education, especially early childhood," Fuentes continued.
The first day of classes for Donna ISD is officially set for Monday, August 11.
