PHARR, Texas – Palmview native Danny Diaz is a political commentator and consultant. In the past he has led La Unión del Pueblo Entero’s communications department.
Of late, Diaz has been closely following the Texas congressional redistricting saga that has been playing out in Austin and, because Democrats broke quorum, across the country. Diaz says there is no doubt the proposed new congressional map for Texas is a gerrymander. He argues it is racist in nature.
The map came about after President Trump asked Republican leaders in Texas to redraw the boundary lines in order to create five new Republican-friendly districts.
However, Diaz says there is still an opportunity for South Texas incumbents U.S. Henry Cuellar and Vicente Gonzalez to hold on to their seats, even though they are two of the five being targeted by Republicans.
