Diabetes symposium to take place in McAllen

MCALLEN, Texas – The number of people with diabetes in the Rio Grande Valley is thought to be higher in percentage terms than the national average.

And nationally, one in every ten people in the United States have diabetes, while one in every five don’t know they have the disease.

South Texas Health System says Valley residents can prevent or delay type 2 diabetes by making healthy lifestyle choices and managing the disease with help from their doctor.

To highlight the issue, STHS, in association with Prominence Health Plan and South Texas College, is hosting a “Prevent, Treat & Beat Diabetes Symposium” on Saturday, April, 6.

The health system says those attending can learn ways to keep their health in check.

The symposium takes place at South Texas College’s Nursing & Allied Health Campus in McAllen, running from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
