Edinburg, Texas: DHR Health would like to invite the community to a free and open to the public, educational event titled “The Miracle of a Kidney Transplant” at 5:30 p.m. on July 15, 2025 at the Edinburg Conference Center at Renaissance located at 118 Paseo del Prado Avenue. DHR Health Transplant Institute physicians and staff members will be available to answer questions and present on a variety of transplantation topics. The presentation will be conducted in English and Spanish.
The DHR Health Transplant Institute, located at 1100 East Dove Avenue, is the only transplant institute in the Rio Grande Valley and is comprised of a multidisciplinary team of physicians, surgeons, pharmacists, social workers, and other healthcare providers who offer compassionate care for kidney, liver, and pancreatic disorders, including kidney transplantation.
This informative session will cover:
• The risks vs. benefits of a kidney transplant
• Understanding the difference between deceased and living donors
• How to find a living donor
• Real patient stories and transplant experiences
“My role at the DHR Health Transplant Institute is to help prepare patients for kidney transplantation, optimize their health, and manage their care after surgery. We work as a team, from surgeons and nurse coordinators to social workers, pharmacists, and dieticians, to ensure the best outcomes for every patient,” said Dr. Sridhar Allam, transplant nephrologist and medical director of the DHR Health Transplant Institute. He emphasized that this comprehensive care is available locally in the Rio Grande Valley, close to home, eliminating the need for patients and their families to travel out of town for transplant services.
In partnership with the Texas Organ Sharing Alliance, the event will also feature an on-site booth where individuals can learn more about organ donation and register as organ donors.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for families, patients, and community members to learn about life-saving kidney transplant options and how they can become part of the solution,” said Marissa Castañeda, senior executive vice president at DHR Health.
Dinner will be provided, and attendees must register in advance by visiting the registration link at: https://app.smartsheet.com/b/form/70e401c08b4b444f949773663ec2d6d0
