BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Border advocacy groups and activists gathered to rally upon President Joe Biden's visit to Brownsville.

LUPE, also known as La Union del Pueblo Entero, led the rally outside the airport where Air Force One landed Thursday afternoon.

Before the rally took place, LUPE held a news conference to address concerns about Biden not meeting with community member to discuss the topic of immigration.

"ICE and Border Patrol are important enough, but the community is not," Tania Chavez Camacho, LUPE Executive Director said.

Dozens of activists were seen holding LUPE flags, banners and chanting "si se puede."

"We are deeply disappointed that when he [Biden] is coming to our community, he is not meeting with the people, with the residents of the Rio Grande Valley to listen and to hear what’s happening in our community," Camacho continued.

Other groups that rallied with LUPE include Texas Civil Rights Project, ARISE, Las Poderosas, Angry Tas y Abuelas, The Sidewalk School, Voces Unidas and Frontera Fund.
