De la Cruz, Miller speak on funding for drought relief

MISSION, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Commissioner Sid Miller and Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz are hosting a press conference to announce the delivery of drought relief funding through the 1944 Water Treaty Agricultural Assistance Program.

The funding will come as part of the $280 million grant agreement between the Texas Department of Agriculture and the United States Department of Agriculture.

"The $280 million in funding is critical for Texas farmers and ranchers after suffering severe losses due to the Government of Mexico's refusal to comply with the 1944 Water Treaty," De La Cruz said.

This will help farmers in the Rio Grande Valley recover from the ongoing agreements between Mexico to deliver water owed to Texas under the 1944 Water Treaty.
