On April 4, a second victim contacted the Cameron County District Attorney's Office raised an allegation of sexual misconduct with a minor against Msgr. Gustavo Barrera, a news release from Cameron County DA Luis V. Saenz stated.

This comes after Bishop Daniel E. Flores released a statement on April 3 informing the public that the Diocese of Brownsville received an allegation of sexual misconduct against Barrera the day before.

In the statement, Bishop Flores stated that the alleged incident occurred 35 years ago. Barrera submitted his resignation and retirement as pastor of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish in McAllen, Flores said.

Earlier this month, Barrera's legal team denied the allegations against him.
