DA: Armed intruder sentenced for breaking into Brownsville home, threatening to kill residents

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A man was sentenced Wednesday for breaking into a Brownsville home armed with a knife, and threatening to kill everyone inside.

Alfredo Bermudes was found guilty on a charge of burglary of a habitation. On Wednesday, he was sentenced to 17 years in prison.

According to the Cameron County District Attorney's Office, Bermudes shattered the rear kitchen window and began entering a Brownsville home.

"Bermudes was carrying a knife in his hand as he forcibly continued entering the house, stating that he was going to kill everyone," a news release stated.

A previous release from the Brownsville Police Department stated that the burglary occurred on April 20, 2023 at the 3100 block of E. 22nd Street.

Police said that officers caught Bermudes as he was exiting the kitchen window, which led to a pursuit on foot. Police added that Bermudes said his mother did not have any food and he was going to take the victim's food. Bermudes was taken into custody, where he was jailed on a $40,000 bond.

He was sentenced to 17 years in prison.
