Could tropical system in the Gulf help our drought?

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The U.S. Drought Monitor was updated Thursday morning, and conditions have worsened since last week.

The Rio Grande Valley may receive much-needed rain next week in the form of a tropical system. This area of low pressure in the Bay of Campeche has a 40% chance for development over the next 7 days.

The tropical low is entering a favorable environment for further development.

The Sea Breeze will bring us slight rain chances through Sunday. Rain chances will ramp up on Monday and remain high until the end of next week.

The next few days of sea breeze showers, combined with this tropical system, could bring over 3 inches of rain through the next 7 days. Even higher rain totals are expected through Friday, June 21.

This forecast will change over the coming days. Remember to stick with us on-air and online for the latest updates.
