Corpus police officer fights for his life after weekend shooting

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A Corpus Christi Police Officer was shot in the line of duty over the weekend.

Officer Kyle Hicks was responding to a domestic disturbance call at 12:32 a.m. Saturday at the 5400 block of Burnham Dr. At the location a man and woman were involved in a disturbance with shots fired.

When officers responded to the call, a 26 year-old-man was at the door and shot one of the officers.

An assisting officer shot back at the suspect, according to Corpus police. The man died at the scene.

Hicks sustained life threatening injuries due to the shooting.

Police Departments across the state are showing their support for Officer Hicks as he fights for his life in the hospital.

The Corpus Christi officers involved in the shootout will be placed on administrative leave, according to the police department.

The family of officer Hicks has started a GoFundMe to help pay medical expenses for the officer. Corpus police say he has already undergone one surgery.
