MISSION, Texas – U.S. Sen. John is convinced the disruption the Trump administration is causing to the economy will pay off. He hopes that payoff will come sooner rather than later.

Interviewed by the Rio Grande Guardian at an event in Mission, Cornyn said: “Nothing changes without some disruption. And President Trump was elected because he was a disrupter, somebody who changed the status quo. But I think he certainly recognizes – I do – that this can’t go on forever, that there’s got to be some payoff at the end. And I believe there will be, and hopefully it will come sooner rather than later.”

Cornyn, a member of the Senate Finance Committee, held an even at the 5×5 Brewing Company to talk about tax cuts. He said he wanted to hear from small business owners about the tax cuts President Trump brought about during his previous term in office. The legislation was called the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.

“I want to thank all the small businesses that were represented here today, telling their story. I know we hear lot of rhetoric, a lot of media, a lot of things that, frankly, are not true about what the impact of the tax bill we passed in 2017 was,” Cornyn said.

“It was called Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. That’s why I wanted to come right here and listen to the people who could tell that story best and who have the credibility that maybe others lack.”

Cornyn met with small business owners Luis Espindola of 5×5 Brewing Company, Kevin Jackson of 5×5 Brewing Company, Sarah Hammond of Atlas Electrical Air Conditioning, Refrigeration & Plumbing Services, Jessica Delgado of Delgado Collective, and Hortencia L. Camargo of C4 Transport, LLC.

Cornyn said cutting taxes will help create more jobs in South Texas.

“I think what you heard here is that after the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act passed in 2017, it produced a savings that small businesses could use to build their business, either to expense equipment or to hire more people or to expand,” Cornyn said.

“And given the challenges that all businesses are facing, and frankly, all families are facing now with inflation over the last four years, the cost of everything has gone up about 20 percent.”

Cornyn added: “Frankly, the bottom line is, it’s not easy to run these businesses. We depend on all of them to be the principal engine of job creation in America.”
