Convicted sex offender sentence for illegal U.S. entry

EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A convicted sex offender was sentenced in the U.S. District Court Southern District of Texas for illegally re-entering the United States.

On Oct. 29, 2024, Border Patrol agents arrested Mexican citizen Rogelio Catalan-Hernandez as he attempted to illegally enter the United States near La Grulla, according to a news release from the U.S. Border Patrol.

In June 2021, Catalan-Hernandez was convicted in Bridgeport of sexual assault of a child, where he was sentenced to five years in state prison and required to register as a sex offender.

On April 9, U.S. District Judge Drew B. Tipton sentenced Catalan-Hernandez to four years in confinement and two years of supervised probation.

Catalan-Hernandez was found guilty of 8 USC 1326, Re-entry of Removed Aliens, the release stated.
