MCALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A convicted felon from McAllen was found in possession of firearms during a traffic stop that went south.

Jaime Garcia, 31, was previously convicted for burglary of a habitation in 2022.

On Jan. 29, authorities attempted to conduct a traffic stop on his vehicle. However, Garcia evaded authorities with his car. When he finally stopped the car, he decided to run away from authorities on foot, but was quickly caught up to and apprehended.

A search of his vehicle revealed a Micro Draco firearm, which is described as an AK-style pistol.

As a convicted felon Garcia is not allowed to possess firearms.

He is scheduled to be sentenced July 15, at which time he faces up to 15 years in federal prison and a possible $250,000 maximum fine.

Garcia will remain in custody pending his sentencing.
