WESLACO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The City of Weslaco hosted a meeting on Wednesday to prepare community leaders across the Rio Grande Valley for hurricane season.

The 2025 Atlantic hurricane season officially kicked off on June 1, bringing in heavy rainfall and flash flood warnings in the Rio Grande Valley.

The meeting brought in leaders from other cities and departments, local agencies, schools, churches, and organizations.

"People want to get involved. People want to get informed on what's going on," said Weslaco Mayor Adrian Gonzalez. "When disaster hits, we want to be ready, prepared for our citizens and in our surrounding cities as well."
