MISSION, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A session was held on Tuesday in Mission to provide insight into a proposal for rail development in the Rio Grande Valley.

The session, hosted by the Rio Grande Valley Rail Advocates, welcomed the community to learn and exchange ideas about the future of rail development in the region.

The rail development plan proposes a rail corridor to bring transportation access across the region and beyond.

"We want to show what we envision can happen in the Rio Grande Valley and why, with rail, how important it is to have this," said Paul Bertangetti, President of the RGV Rail Advocates.

Bertangetti says the plan includes three routes with daily transportation from Brownsville to Rio Grande City, with additional routes outside the region to Monterrey, San Antonio, Houston, and Dallas.

"It would be profitable for the cities involved," Bertangetti said. "If you can get to where you want to go in the time you'd like to get there, and at the same time save money, it's a win-win for everybody."

Future sessions hosted by the RGV Rail Advocates can be found online.
