McALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — What's funnier than 24? 25. ValleyCentral got an exclusive interview with the widely known voice actor, Tom Kenny.

Kenny is known in the voice acting community for his roles as SpongeBob, The Mayor of Townsville and narrator from the PowerPuff Girls, Dog from the 90's Nickelodeon show Cat Dog, and many more.

With many growing up with Kenny's characters such as SpongeBob, many fans attending the South Texas Comic were ecstatic to meet him.

Kenny tells ValleyCentral, when Stephen Hillenburg, the creator of SpongeBob, showed him the idea he fell in love with it.

"I fell in love with it, everything was right on the page, he created that world so detailed he even had watercolored paintings of the character's houses," Kenny said.

He added, he did not think he would still be doing this a quarter century later.

Kenny says he likes attending the cons that are a little smaller because fans can get to spend a little more time and hang out.

"My favorite part to come to these conventions are the interactions and everyone has their own thing some love SpongeBob, others love video games and some are deep divers that will show up with things for me to sign that is a blip in IMDB," he said.

After a quarter centry, SpongeBob has become an important part in pop culture such as phrases from the shows, memes and even having a whole age dedicated to the show.

"It's amazing that this job and this gig is still happening because all things must pass as they say, but it's been a blast doing it to see that it is still appreciated by fans," Kenny said.

Besides the widely known character, Kenny has a range of voice acting jobs such as being in a small role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the movie AntMan.

"The way I got the role is one day the director, who lives in my neighborhood, asked me to do a couple of voices for an ugly stuffed toy in the movie AntMan and I said sure," he added.

Besides being a voice actor, Kenny is also part of a 12 group band called Tom Kenny and the Hi-Seas.

"We love performing for these comic con fans, we bring the party and it's a gathering of the tribes," Kenny added.

Tom Kenny will be performing with his band on Saturday at the McAllen Convention Center, following the South Texas Comic Con.
