PALMVIEW, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The City of Palmview announced Tuesday the start of its summer food pantry.
The city says the goal of the initiative is to support Palmview families in need during the summer months.
The city underscored its commitment to ensuring that no child in Palmview goes hungry while school is out.
Palmview Mayor Javier Villarreal said the idea for the pantry came from winter Texans who would donate food to those in need.
"Even though we are a city, we see a lot of families and kids, especially that we see that go to school ... sometimes because that is where they're gonna have a good meal," Villareal said.
The food pantry is in the library and the library is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
"We will be feeding and offering nonperishable food for our community as long as we have it available," Villarreal said.
