MISSION, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Texas Municipal Police Association (TMPA) met with the Mission City Commission to request bargaining rights within the city's police department.
A special meeting was held Monday morning to discuss what bargaining rights could mean for the Mission Police Department.
TMPA Field Representative JP Rodriguez says bargaining rights would allow Mission police officers to negotiate their wages, hours and benefits.
"Our ultimate goal is to try to negotiate an agreement for all police officers that are serving here in the City of Mission so that they can have the best career possible," Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez appeared before the Mission City Commission with a petition representing those who are in support of bargaining rights.
However, the city commission rejected the petition.
"We're a little disappointed with the City Commission rejecting our petition," Rodriguez said. "We're going to keep trying to do what we can to support not just the members of our organization, but all Mission police officers."
