MISSION, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The City of Mission says it will move its municipal elections to coincide with federal, state, and other local elections in November.
The passage of Senate Bill 447 made it possible for certain municipalities to change the date on which their general election for officers is held.
“Our voters in Mission are better served by moving our elections from May to November. The reality is that voters turn out in substantially higher numbers in higher-profile federal and state elections," said Mayor Norie Gonzalez Garza.
In the May 2024 referendum election, over 77% of Mission residents voted to change the election date.
