City of Edinburg honors MLK Day by cleaning historic cemetery

EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The City of Edinburg and the UTRGV Center for Student Involvement cleaned the historic Reslawn Cemetery, in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The cemetery was established in 1928 and is a historically Black burial site in Edinburg. It is a significant landmark in the city's history.

Volunteers gathered together Monday morning to clean up and highlight the cemetery's importance to Edinburg and the South Texas community.

"Today we are celebrating MLK Day but also Day of Service and it's about bringing the community together," said Edinburg Mayor, Ramiro Garza Jr.

Garcia added, that many community members and university students attended Monday's event to help clean up and celebrate the Day of Service.
