City of Brownsville offers counseling services after deadly library shooting

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The City of Brownsville is offering counseling services for those impacted by the fatal shooting at the Brownsville Public Library on Saturday.

At noon Saturday, police responded to a call regarding an “unknown disturbance” at the library located on the 2600 block of Central Boulevard.

BACKGROUND: $3.25M bond for Brownsville library shooting suspect

When officers arrived they say they found 71-year-old Vahid Khaledi, unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police identified the suspect as 33-year-old Humberto Paz.

Paz was charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to the Brownsville Police Department.

On Facebook, Khaledi's family has set up a GoFundMe account to help pay for funeral expenses and to return his body to Houston.
