ALAMO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — City leaders and the community joined Monday to celebrate the groundbreaking of a new commercial district in Alamo.
The groundbreaking ceremony launched the city's plan to bring drainage and infrastructure enhancements to its residents.

"This project was much needed. Alamo Road has been one of the major thoroughfares that has suffered flooding across the years," said Alamo Mayor J.R. Garza.
Alamo has partnered with the Texas Department of Transportation to move forward with the $1.8 million drainage project.
"We have now dedicated this area as our commercial investment zone, and we want to make sure we take care of the flooding issues that have hurt our residents for so long," Garza continued.
In addition to the drainage project, Alamo is moving forward with a new welcome sign to greet residents and visitors into the city.
Garza anticipates both projects will be complete within a year.
"I want to thank the Alamo community for being patient with us," Garza said. "God bless the City of Alamo."
