ALAMO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The City of Alamo celebrated the official grand opening of its newly renovated museum.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Wednesday evening to celebrate the historical moment.
"Alamo has so much history," said Lya Yllades, spokesperson with the City of Alamo. "Just as the city is growing, our departments are growing, and with growth comes change."
Yllades says the Alamo Museum was given a renovation, relocation, and renaming.
"The name is Maria del Pilar Garza," Yllades said.
Garza's legacy to the City of Alamo dates back 40 years.
"She's just been such a great contributor to public education. She was also a commissioner with the city, and she is proud to be one of the founders of the museum. We're so honored to have this new name," Yllades said.
The new museum has been relocated to the city's previous municipal court, fire station, and police station building on 840 W. Austin Ave.
