HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Valley Baptist Health System and the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District have launched a new initiative in support of Bird Bowl Week.
Bird Bowl Week is a significant week in the Harlingen community that celebrates the annual rivalry game between the Harlingen South Hawks and Harlingen Cardinals football teams.
Wednesday introduced "Hatch Day," recognizing the first newborn baby of the new initiative.
"The Bird Bowl baby will get a special onesie, a bird bowl onesie, as well as being recognized on social media," said Alissa Castaneda, Marketing Manager at Valley Baptist Health System. "At the Bird Bowl game, they'll have their own graphic on the digital billboard."
During Bird Bowl Week, Valley Baptist will recognize and honor 20 additional newborn babies as future baby Hawks and baby Cardinals.
"We are also recognizing each game that the Hawks or Cardinals play. We will have our recognized baby. So, we'll have our featured future baby hawk and future baby Cardinal, and they will also get their own onesie," Castaneda continued.
The annual Bird Bowl game will kick off at Boggus Stadium, Friday, Sept. 5.
