CCSO: Meth found in man's bag after arrest at a county park

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A man with a warrant for possession of a controlled substance had meth on him during his arrest, according to the Cameron County Sheriff's Office.

Luis Alberto Berumen was arrested at Pedro Benavidez County Park after closing hours at 1 a.m., Saturday.

A press release from Cameron County Sheriff's Office says a patrol supervisor noticed a "suspicious" vehicle parked, which was later revealed to belong to Berumen.

The patrol supervisor approached the vehicle, made contact with Berumen and conducted a driver license check.

The check revealed Berumen had a warrant of arrest for the offense of possesion of a controlled substance.

Berumen was arrested following the driver license check along with his passenger, Cristal Gonzalez.

Gonzalez also had a warrant of arrest for driving while intoxicated and was arrested.

During inventory of physical property on the vehicle, authorities found a black fanny pack where Berumen was seated.

The bag contained Berumen's belongings including his wallet, his ID, and a clear plastic bag with a crystal-like substance.

A narcotic field test revealed the subtance in Berumen's bag was crystal meth, Cameron County officials confirm.

Berumen was additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance.
