BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A wanted man was taken into custody after allegedly biting and running away from deputies, authorities say.

Javier Hector Contreras was charged with evading arrest on foot, resisting arrest and aggravated assault on a peace officer, according to a news release from the Cameron County Sheriff's Office.

At 1:28 a.m. Monday, Cameron County deputies responded to a family disturbance involving a wanted man at the 1700 block of Illinois Avenue.

When deputies arrived and entered the residence they saw the wanted man, identified as Contreras, running away.

Deputies commanded Contreras to stop but he refused and they began to chase him on foot. Moments later, authorities were able to grab him, but he began to pull away.

According to deputies, Contreras began using force to avoid being handcuffed and bit one of the deputies on his shoulder.

Contreras was then arrested and transported to the Carrizalez Rucker Detention Center for his arraignment.

Contreras had two outstanding arrest warrants for assault on a public servant and theft.
