CBP: Man bites Border Patrol agent after reaching for weapon

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A Honduran man was arrested after allegedly biting a Border Patrol agent.

Elmor Leonel Ramos-Aburcia, is anticipated to face multiple federal charges including three counts of assault on a federal officer.

On Tuesday, Border Patrol agents at the Brownsville station apprehended Ramos-Aburcia after he was trying to scale the border fence near the port of entry.

Border Patrol agents attempted to take him into custody, but he became physical.

During the struggle, Ramos-Aburcia forced his way into a Border Patrol unit and attempted to take the agents service weapon. During the altercation, the man also bit the Border Patrol agent on the forearm.

“This was a highly volatile and dangerous situation that could have resulted in serious harm to the public and our agents,” said RGV Sector Chief Gloria I. Chavez. “I commend the professionalism and restraint shown by our agents in bringing this individual under control. Let it be clear, assaults on our personnel will not be tolerated, and we will pursue full accountability under the law.”
