U.S. Customs and Border Protection last Friday found 960 packages of methamphetamine hidden within a shipment of Persian limes at the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility.
In a news release, CBP said the methamphetamine weighed nearly 267 pounds and had a value of $2,404,300.
CBP officers discovered the narcotics after inspecting a commercial tractor-trailer.
“Our CBP officers continue to safeguard America’s border by keeping harmful narcotics off our streets,” said Carlos Rodriguez, port director for the Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry.
CBP seized the drugs and the vehicle and Homeland Security Investigations initiated a criminal investigation.
No other information was released.
