HIDALGO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The cause of death of an infant who died at a daycare this week has been determined.
According to Hidalgo Police Department police chief Romeo Rodriguez, at approximately 3:01 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, dispatch received a call about a baby not breathing at a daycare located in the 200 block of 1st Street.
At the scene, Hidalgo PD, FD and an EMS service found the baby unresponsive and immediately performed CPR on the child.
The 9-month-old baby boy was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
During the investigation, authorities discovered the mom had taken the infant to the hospital earlier that day, and advised the staff he was sick but did not say how sick the child was.
The baby was treated and later released. Rodriguez added that the mom later took the baby to the daycare and went to work, located across the street from the daycare.
An autopsy was performed, which determined the cause of death to be two respiratory illnesses.
Authorities are not investigating the daycare center at this time.
