Case dismissed against truck driver involved in deadly Harlingen crash

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The case against a tractor trailer driver involved in a deadly crash in Harlingen has been dismissed.

Juan Jose Bazaldua Sanchez was facing two counts of manslaughter and three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection to a crash that killed 28-year-old Angela Galicia and 65-year-old Jesus Trevino. The crash also injured three others, records show.

Semi driver arrested after fatal Harlingen crash

On June 14, prosecutors filed for dismissal, with records showing the state was "unable to prove beyond a reasonable doubt." Judge Ricardo Adobbati granted and signed the dismissal.

The Crash

At 2:20 p.m. Jan 20, 2023, the driver of a commercial trailer, later identified as Bazaldua Sanchez, was traveling eastbound on the 25000 block of FM 106 and lost control. A news release stated the vehicle "jack-knifed" in the middle of the road and three vehicles crashed into it as it was blocking the roadway.
