Camp McAllen celebrates grand opening

MCALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The City of McAllen Parks and Recreation Department on Wednesday celebrated the grand opening of Camp McAllen.

The new 20-acre campground is located within the city and offers public access to fishing, kayaking, camping, archery, and bike riding.

"It's very important for our community. This just gives us an opportunity to provide these types of amenities for our families, residents, and visitors to come out," said Denny Meline, Director of McAllen Parks and Recreation

Site amenities include a walking trail, an archery range, camping pads, a group pavilion, a fire pit, a restroom facility, three piers for fishing and boating, and a multipurpose meadow. 

The total project cost is $1,861,709.03.
