BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A ceremony was held outside the Cameron County Courthouse on Thursday to remember the lives lost on September 1, 2001.
Law enforcement agencies and government leaders stood for a moment of silence to reflect on the thousands of lives lost in the terrorist attack.
"I think it's imperative that we never forget what occurred on 9/11 and the sacrifices and the responses that our first responders had," said Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevino Jr.
Trevino says the best way to honor the fallen first responders and those impacted by the attacks is to work together.
"Our responsibility as Americans should be to love and understand, and if we do that, even when we disagree, we can accomplish great things," Trevino continued. "This continuing rhetoric of hate and confrontation and divisiveness is not helping. We need to continue to be that shining light, that example for the rest of the world."
