CAMERON COUNTY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Cameron County was awarded $750,000 grant from the National Service's Land and Water Conservation Fund to help improve the Laureles
Regional Park.
The grant was awarded through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, which will pass the funds over to Cameron County as the subrecipient.
In a news release from Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño Jr., the total cost of the project is estimated at $1.5 million, with an expected completion date in September 2028.
Improvements that will take place at the Laureles Regional Park include the following:
- A new nature trail with native landscaping
- A new playground
- Outdoor fitness equipment and shade structures
- An upgraded picnic facilities and site amenities
- Water catchment system to support sustainable irrigation
- Solar lighting
- Fencing
- New signage
- Replacement of sports-field lighting

Laureles Regional Park is located within Cameron County Precinct 3 in the heart of San Benito and is a vital recreational place for residents.
