CAMERON COUNTY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Starbase has officially been incorporated as a city after the Cameron County Commissioners Court unanimously voted for its inclusion.
The decision came early Tuesday after residents of Starbase, formerly known as Boca Chica Village, voted to establish Starbase as a Type C general law municipality.
As previously reported by ValleyCentral, unofficial election results indicated that 212 residents voted for the creation of the City of Starbase and six people voted against it, with 100% of precincts reporting (only one precinct voted in this election).
At Tuesday's Commissioners Court Meeting, none of the commissioners voted against the incorporation.
The ruling of May's election transformed the incorporated village of Starbase, also known as Boca Chica Village, into a Type C general city with a commission form of government, comprising a mayor and two commissioners.
The mayor and two commissioners each serve two-year terms, unless voters adopt a measure that extends their terms to four years.
The Starbase commission is required to hold at least one regular monthly meeting and call as many special meetings as needed.
As of Tuesday, Starbase is officially the newest city in Cameron County and the state of Texas.
