The Cameron County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public’s assistance in locating a man wanted for murder.
The sheriff’s office said in a news release Tuesday that 41-year-old Jacobo Hernandez-Hernandez is accused of shooting and killing 27-year-old Christopher James De Leon in 2023.
At about 2:30 a.m., on July 25 of that year, sheriff’s deputies responded to the 200 block of Adams Avenue in Laguna Heights in reference to a shooting.
Once there, they found De Leon’s lifeless body with several gunshot wounds on his body.
“Cameron County Sheriff’s Investigators immediately launched an investigation into this homicide and subsequently identified the suspect as [Hernandez],” the release said.
Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Hernandez for the offense of murder.
However, Hernandez fled to Mexico moments after allegedly committing the crime.
Police say Hernandez was seen crossing the bridge into Matamoros and now believe he’s hiding somewhere in Veracruz, Mexico.
The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information that could help locate Hernandez to call them at (956) 554-6700.
If one wishes to remain anonymous, they can call Cameron County Crime Stoppers at (956) 350-5551.
Information brought forward could be eligible for a cash reward.
