Cameron County Administrator gives update on international bridge crossings and revenue

BROWNSVILLE, Texas – Cameron County Administrator Pete Sepulveda has given county commissioners a report on bridge crossings and revenues for the third quarter of fiscal year 2025. 

The Cameron County International Bridge System has three international bridges – Gateway, Los Indios, and Veterans.

Here is an overview Sepulveda’s report:

Gateway International Bridge at Brownsville

“Here are my observations:

“Crossings for this quarter totaled 754,436, representing an increase of 1% over the same time period last fiscal year. Total revenues collected this quarter were $1,665,558.84, representing an increase of 1% over the same quarter last fiscal year. Pedestrian crossings this quarter were 454,238 compared with 455,796 for the third quarter of last year,” Sepulveda said.

Free Trade International Bridge at Los Indios

“Here are my observations:

“Crossings for this quarter totaled 153,288, representing an increase of 2% over the same period last fiscal year. Total revenues collected this quarter were $904,728.59, representing an increase of 21% over the same quarter last fiscal year. Pedestrian crossings this quarter was 607 compared with 405 the third quarter of last year.”

Veterans International Bridge at Brownsville

“Here are my observations:

“Crossings for this quarter totaled 495,700, representing a decrease of 5% over the same time period last fiscal year. Total revenues collected this quarter were $2,859,050.43, representing a decrease of 9% over the same quarter last fiscal year. Pedestrian crossings this quarter were 2,259, compared with 1,210 the third quarter of last year.”

All Three Bridges

“Here are my observations:

“Total crossings for all three bridges this quarter were 1,403,424. The total revenues collected were $5,429,337.86, representing a decrease of 2% of the same time period last fiscal year. This fiscal year during the third quarter we had 14,487 less crossings than the third quarter of the last fiscal year, and we collected minus $104,116.19 less in revenues. 

“Passenger vehicle crossings on all bridges this quarter totaled 826,747, which is 15,254 less crossings, representing a decrease of 2% over last fiscal year. Revenue collected for passenger vehicles was $3,296,919.50, which represents a decrease of $61,424.50., or 2% less, compared with last fiscal year.

“This quarter we had 69,197 commercial vehicles through all our bridges, which is 5,780 less crossings, representing a decrease of 9% over the same time period last fiscal year.

“Customers using our AVI system this quarter totaled 96,328 crossings, representing an increase of 1% compared with last fiscal year. Revenues collected through the AVI system were $1,215,028.75, which represents an increase of $48,2888.50 or a 4% increase compared with last fiscal year.”
