MCALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Friends for Hope, a local organization dedicated to helping children with cancer, received a $15,000 donation on behalf of Burns Motors.
The donation is a part of Burns Motors' initiative to recognize Childhood Cancer Awareness during September and October.
A percentage of funds from each vehicle sold at Burns Motors went towards the cancer donation check.
Burns Motors started getting involved with Friends for Hope in 2023.
During Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, the car dealership donates $75 for every vehicle sold.
"It's to help our children here from the Rio Grande Valley that are cancer patients, and we support the Valley kids to get medical help, financial help and travel help," said Javier Contreras Operations Director of Burns Motors.
Ronaldo Cantu, President of Friends for Hope, says the donation can help families with getting cancer treatment in the Rio Grande Valley.
"Instead of having to go to Corpus or San Antonio, we've got a place here where the kids can stay here. Their families don't have to spend money traveling," Cantu said. "No kid is turned away. So whether they have insurance or not, they're going to get taken care of."
