SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Reports from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation indicate a Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. location is coming to South Padre Island.
Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. is known for serving creative seafood dishes inspired by the food in the movie "Forest Gump." The first Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. restaurant and market opened in 1996 in Monterey, California.
The restaurant was known as the first and only casual restaurant chain based on a motion picture property.
In an effort to capture the savory flavors as described by Bubba in the film, the restaurant serves American classics such as scratch-made southern-style comfort food: sautéed shrimp, fried shrimp, coconut shrimp, shrimp scampi and many more.
According to the TDLR website, the restaurant at South Padre Island will be located at 2301 Laguna Blvd., just across the street from gravity park.
Construction on the $4,250,000 project is projected to begin July 31 of this year and be completed by July 31 of 2026.
It is estimated to be an 18,042 square foot facility.
