BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The City of Brownsville's work crews began removing the historic Capitol Theatre sign.

According to a social media post from the city's Facebook page, work crews carefully began removing the historic marquee on Tuesday, due to its fragile condition.

The downtown 1928 Capitol Theatre sign has been a staple in Brownsville's history and building structure.

The City of Brownsville Municipal Government City Commission has approved the restoration of the sign, allowing the long-delayed roof repairs to move forward.

The city states that, soon, the 1928 Capitol Theatre sign will shine on the streets of downtown again.
