The Brownsville Police Department on Monday arrested three men they accuse of kidnapping two people and beating and torturing them on Dec. 3.

On Thursday, the department posted on Facebook that authorities arrested Cris Angel Aguilar, 17, Kristopher Alexander Lerma, 20, and Gilberto Moises Cancino, 55.

They are each charged with two counts of aggravated kidnapping causing bodily injury and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The investigation began after patrol officers responded to a trespassing call in the 200 block of Ash Street.

“Upon arrival, officers discovered two male victims who appeared to have been severely beaten and tortured,” police said.

The men told officers they had been kidnapped and held captive for several days at a location in the 200 block of Shary Avenue.

“They further claimed that the kidnapping was the result of accusations that they had stolen drugs from the suspects,” police stated. “It was determined that the victims and the suspects were acquaintances, and this was an isolated incident.”

Aguilar received a total of $400,000 in bonds. It’s not immediately clear if he remains in custody as he didn’t appear Friday in a search of Cameron County Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center inmate records.

Cancino and Lerma, meanwhile, remain jailed on a total of $650,000 in bonds.
