Brownsville police arrest man accused of stealing Camaro

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Brownsville police arrested a man accused of stealing a Camaro.

Jose Antonio Ortiz, 37, was arrested Friday on charges of engaging in organized criminal activity and theft of a motor vehicle, a news release from the Brownsville Police Department stated.

On May 17, a man reported that his grey 2016 Chevy Camaro had been stolen outside of his residence. Shortly afterwards, a video was taken of a Camaro evading from Mexican authorities at the B&M International Bridge.

It was later determined that Ortiz was driving the Camaro, police said.

Mercedes man accused of picking up excavator used to bury victim’s remains

The Brownsville Police Auto Theft Unit investigated the case and secured two warrants for Ortiz's arrest, and he was subsequently taken into custody at the Gateway International Bridge.

Police added that the vehicle was recovered, and Ortiz is pending arraignment.
